Ramblings of a Discouraged Mind & Pumpkin Spiced Latte (finally)

So I'm not going to lie. I’m starting to get discouraged. It’s not that I must get my way, but when....
And when. Anytime the word “but” is in a sentence, what has come before is forgotten. I do not need to get my own way. (My dad would either say, “finally” or scoff and deny my reality!)
… AND when rejection is so frequent it starts to feel personal. Then, when friends are unkind or unappreciative, we – no I – overreact.

For the last few months, I’ve been putting myself out there. “Do you have a vision? Can you communicate it? Are you a terrific leader? Do you want me? We could do great things together!” That makes a person vulnerable. It’s opening yourself up to … rejection. How can a person not take it personally? How do I stay focused, positive and not give up?
That, frankly, is a day to day and sometimes moment to moment, challenge. Gratitude helps. It helps to have friends around you that will say, “Becky, we’re good enough friends to be honest with each other, right?” and you know that the next thing they say will make you cry and they say it anyway, because it needs to be said.
Gratitude, a dream, honesty, REAL friends and service to others.
I am thankful. There is so much in my life that is positive and gratitude without a dream goes nowhere. Where do I want to be next month, next year, in five years and in 10 years. What would I say to my past self to make my dreams come true?
“Self, You’re on your way and it’s a difficult journey. Why are you waiting so long to start taking the steps you knew you need to take? You know you have people around you that not only care about you, but they also are there to cheer you on and help you fulfill your destiny. They are in your life for a reason, just as you are in their lives, and the lives of others for a reason. Be who you are meant to be and start living up to your potential... NOW!
Live life. Love life. Invest time. Be honest with yourself. It is of no benefit to feed yourself propaganda. Enough of that comes from the outside. If, when you get to the core of the matter, you don’t like what you see, change it. Your past is over, the future isn’t promised, and it isn’t here, the time is now.
Most importantly, be gentle with yourself. The past shades the future but it doesn’t have to define it. You’ve been victimized but you are a victor, not a victim. Do your best, always.
Love, Your Present Self”
What I would say to my future self is: “Good job, Future Self! Others said, “who knew she could accomplish all that?” You did. You knew it and you did it! Well done. Did you open the agency? Did you purchase a business? Did you finally get that career you were (un)patiently waiting for? Whichever of those options, I’m so glad you went for it. You didn’t let anything stop you from living up to your full potential!
You were so wise to let your circle of friends help you, mentor you and give you sage advice. Your instincts were great!
I’m glad your car finally got fixed or replaced?! Did you remodel your home or end up moving?
Are your paintings selling? You are still painting, aren’t you? Are you enjoying traveling? Have they let you travel back from the Canadian border or are they still holding a grudge? It may be best to not test that! <big smiles>
Enjoy those grandbabies... they must be getting so big now!
Love you lots, Past Self”
Wow. I’m feeling better for writing. Not so discouraged. Ready to take it on again. Put myself out there, again.
I’m not sure my ramblings help anyone. I sure hope so. If they do, drop me a line.
Enjoy this cup of comfort!
